Hurray – it’s Book Week

21 August 2021

A highlight in every school’s calendar, Book Week has commenced, running until this Friday, 27 August. It is one glorious week celebrating books, Australian children’s authors and illustrators to highlight the importance of reading. This year award-winning author, illustrator and film-maker Shaun Tan has illustrated the theme, "Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds".

Hurray – it’s Book Week

Did you know that the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) is a volunteer organisation established in 1945 at a time when Australian children’s books were few? Nowadays, Book Week presents a time to celebrate favourite characters from classics through to contemporary books and acts as a reminder of the ongoing benefits of early reading for future success.

Due to COVID and online learning, our Primary Team has decided to postpone all-time favourite Book Week events like the annual Book Character Parade to Term 4 when we can hopefully celebrate this wonderful week back on campus in person.

We would, however, very much like to encourage each and every student, staff and parent to share their love for reading by sending us

  • a short (up to 30s) video or photos of you reading at home
  • your favourite book recommendation and/or review
  • a drawing of your favourite book character or villain
  • your memories of your parents reading to you as a child.

We are excitedly looking forward to receiving your Book Week submissions emailed directly to Ms Tanja or info@alsiraat.vic.edu.au
