Programs Community Engagement
Islamic Storytime was initially launched as a grassroots approach to connecting the youngest members of our community with the masjid, instilling a love for our faith, our values, forming those first Sunnah habits, and forging those first friendships before big school.
One of Â鶹´«Ã½ College’s core Community Engagement Strategies is to foster meaningful connections within our school community, both with one another and, most importantly, with the Musallah.
The Musallah is more than a place of prayer; it is the heart of the community – a space where we pray, learn, socialise, celebrate, grieve, grow, and connect.
It’s early in the morning, and curious little feet step into the Musallah at Â鶹´«Ã½ College. A cosy chest filled with books and toys lines the back wall, mats arranged in a welcoming circle, ready for a morning of arts and crafts, bubbles, songs, and Islamic stories.
A warm invitation reads:"We welcome you and your bubs to use this space to connect through crafts and free play, and forge friendships with other mums within our College. Our aim is to further strengthen our school community and make the Musallah a familiar and cherished space for our younger children."
Islamic Storytime was first launched in October 2017, with over 20 little ones (aged 0–4 years) and their mums gathering for the inaugural session. Timed right after school drop-offs, the weekly sessions created a gentle, welcoming rhythm for mothers and their youngest children to engage in a fun, faith-centred environment.
From its earliest days, Islamic Storytime was a collective effort—made possible through the dedication of parent volunteers, passionate teachers, and enthusiastic storytellers, all working together to bring a shared vision to life.
Despite its early teething stages, Islamic Storytime has grown into an incredible success, attracting families from both the school and the wider community.
Now a flagship program of Â鶹´«Ã½ College, it has become much more than just storytime. The Musallah has been a space to celebrate special events like Eid and Neighbour Day, and to host valuable parenting workshops, including Peaceful Parenting and Healthy Lunchbox Preparation.
Additionally, Islamic Storytime has served as a bridge for prospective parents, offering them an opportunity to engage with the Â鶹´«Ã½ College community long before their children are of school age.
What began as a simple idea has flourished into a beloved program—one that continues to nurture faith, friendship, and a deep connection to the Musallah.
